Healthcare Jobs Nationwide Just Grew At Fastest Pace Since Early 90’s

December 5, 2015 in Featured

For almost two years from 2012 and 2014, nearly every job report hinted at a big industry changes in health care jobs (and changes in our economy). And what we were seeing is that largely, hospitals just weren’t hiring.

The thing is, those two years were pivotal because hospitals historically have been booming in employment year after year.

In the same time period, hospital job growth was lagging at the pace of the rest of the economy, and we could see this in healthcare jobs nationwide such as employment in doctors’ offices and outpatient care centers. Healthcare growth had basically flatlined for two years.

The good news? In 2015, new life has been given to the healthcare job market.

Earlier this year, a report released showed us that healthcare jobs nationwide had grown for ten straight months in a row.

The hospital sector alone has at this point gained upwards of 100,000 jobs in the last year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The last time the hospital sector reported a gain such as this in employment rates was in 2008, right before the effects of the recession fully kicked in.

And while a lot of the healthcare sector initially felt that the introduction of Obamacare would kill off many jobs, we can see pretty clearly now that it has in fact been a major driver of growth in healthcare jobs nationwide. Our country’s rate of uninsured has fallen to a record low of around 11%, approximately half of what it was just a few years ago. That equates to less bad debt for hospitals, and more revenue. Some hospitals are now reporting their best financial performance in years.

As you may have guessed, there’s a dark side to healthcare job growth. When the healthcare sector booms in employment rates, that typically brings more health care related spending, too. And those cost increases have to go somewhere, which ultimately may not be helpful for to an already shaky economy.

The bottom line is that the employment rate in healthcare jobs nationwide is at an all time high and now is the time to find the right position for your skills and background with NHR Nationwide.
